Elevation Profile

Ben More
The climb to the summit of Ben More can really be described as one big rocky staircase that leads you all the way to the top.
There is a small section of track at the start - and a slight deviation and traverse around 1000m up, but the path is always very clear and in good visibility navigation should be no trouble at all. It is a punishing climb but it doesn't take long for the views to become worth it. The summit is also surprisingly rocky and a fun place to explore - so stop and make the most of it up there!
Ston Binnein
As it the style of this walk, the climb to the summit of Stob Binnein is also a steep path that heads pretty much straight up. Instead of a rocky staircase the path here is a zig-zag of hair pins - but the principle is the same - keep climbing until you hit the summit. This summit is less dramatic, with a more simple cairn - however the views are equally spectacular and it is a beautiful place to be.
The Descent
The descent from the col was by far the most technical part of the climb. What starts off as a pleasant path, starts to lean and narrow, before disappearing altogether in areas of wet grass and bog. It is just about possible to see where you need to get to - the challenge is achieving this without slipping, sliding or losing a foot to the bog.
Eventually, the path comes back and follows a beautiful burn. This path delivers you to a track where the walking becomes easy once more as you descend the valley back to the road.
Overall Thoughts
This was a fun walk even though it was a little bit busy. The proximity of the peak to the main road being both a blessing and a curse!
If you like the constant grind of a steep ascent (which I actually do) this is a great climb for you.
I think it would be awesome for training the legs for some uphill running.
We were mainly happy to tick off two more Munros - I don't think we'll be rushing back but we definitely had a fun day out in the sunshine.
